Permission manager service

What is the permission manager?

The permission manager service allows your customers to do updates, without requiring them to have an administrator account. This is a very important feature that only AutoUpdate+ provides. It is highly recommended, especially for installation on Windows Vista machines, which do not give admin permissions by default.

The permission manager service should get installed together with your application. Various command-line options are available to manage this service.

How does it work?

The service will get installed under the system administrator account by default. If this service is installed, any operations that require high-level permissions will operate by talking to the permission manager service. This means that operations such as file creation, registry modifications and unzipping of files, will be done by the more privileged service account, rather than the limited user account.
